National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is an autonomous[4] institute offering courses in fashion, technology, and management. Its head office is located in New Delhi, India.[5]
The National Institutes of Design (NIDs) are a group of autonomous public design universities in India, with the primary institute, founded in 1961, in Ahmedabad, with extension campuses in Gandhinagar and Bengaluru. The other NIDs are located in the cities of Kurukshetra, Vijayawada, Jorhat and Bhopal. The NIDs function autonomously under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. The NIDs are recognised by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research of the government’s Ministry of Science and Technology as a scientific and industrial research organisation. The universities are accorded Institutes of National Importance under the National Institute of Design Act, 2014
Bachelor of Design (B.Des – 4 Years) is offered at NID Ahmedabad, NID Andhra Pradesh, NID Haryana, NID Madhya Pradesh and NID Assa. Master of Design (M.Des – 2.5 Years) is offered at NID Ahmedabad (and its extension campuses at Gandhinagar and Bengaluru.)
The National Institute of Design (NID) Exam is a national-level design entrance examination in India. It is conducted by the National Institute of Design for admission into its various undergraduate and postgraduate design courses at campuses across India, offering students the opportunity to pursue a career in fields such as product design, graphic design, animation, and more.
National Institute of Fashion Technology Rashtriya Fashion Pradyogiki Sansthan.
NIFT is a national-level design entrance exam conducted by the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT).
The exam is conducted once every year and has TWO parts:
Written Exams – It comprise the GAT and CAT. The GAT paper is mandatory for all programs, while only B.Des and M.Des candidates need to take the CAT.
Situation Test/ Personal Interview – B.Des candidates who get shortlisted have to appear in the Situation Test, whereas PG candidates need to appear in a Personal Interview. The only exception is B.F.Tech program, where the admission merit list will be prepared solely based on GAT scores.
The FINAL score of NIFT 2024 for the other programs will be prepared by giving weightage to the written exams and Situation Test/ Personal Interview. The scores or merit rank of NIFT will be considered for admission to design courses offered by the NIFT participating institutes. Currently, there are 18 participating institutes that offer the following courses – B.Des, M.Des, B.F.Tech, M.F.Tech, and M.F.M courses. The combined intake capacity for the above programs is 5, 215 seats.
The Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED) is a national-level exam conducted by IIT Bombay for admission to the B.Des program at the following participating institutes: IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, and IIITDM Jabalpur. Admission is done based on UCEED scores through a Joint Seat Allotment Process conducted by IIT Bombay. Candidates who are issued a UCEED merit rank are eligible to participate in the seat allotment or counselling process. The result-sharing institutes, unlike participating colleges, however, will not participate in the Joint Seat Allotment process. Further, result-sharing institutes will only fill some of the available seats based on UCEED scores. This means they may also use scores of other entrance exam scores to fill out the remaining seats. The UCEED exam is conducted once every year, typically in January.
