The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is one of India’s premier fashion institutes and offers a range of courses in fashion and design. To be eligible for admission, students must pass the NIFT Entrance Exam.
The NIFT Entrance Exam is divided into two parts: the Creative Ability Test (CAT) and the General Ability Test (GAT).
The CAT is designed to assess the creative aptitude of the candidate and includes questions related to design, pattern-making, sketching, etc. The GAT tests the candidate’s general knowledge, language ability, mathematics, and logic.
The preparation for the NIFT entrance exam requires a great amount of hard work, dedication and practice to crack it. To ensure success, it is important to have a thorough understanding of the syllabus and exam pattern.
One should also be familiar with the syllabus and topics covered in the exam. Additionally, it is essential to practice sample papers and mock tests to get an idea of the type of questions that appear in the exam.
It is recommended that the candidates should start preparing for the exam at least one year in advance in order to ace the exam.
NIFT entrance exam score is valid to get admission to 16 campuses of NIFT.

NIFT entrance exam pattern is different for different course.
Bachelor of Design (B.Des.)
The written examination for B.Des. includes Creative Ability Test (CAT) and General Ability Test (GAT). The candidates who qualify the written test are eligible to appear for the Situation Test.
Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B.FTech.)
The aspirants have to undergo the written Examination of the General Ability Test (GAT).
Master of Design (M.Des.)
The written examination includes CAT and GAT which is followed by Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GD/PI) for those who clear the written Exam.
Master of Fashion Technology (M.FTech.)
Candidates have to appear for the written examination which includes GAT followed by a GD/PI for those who clear the written exam.
Master of Fashion Management (M.F.M.)
Aspirants have to appear for GAT (written exam). Shortlisted candidates will be called for Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GD/PI).

Creative Ability Test (CAT) Pattern:
The Creative Ability Test is conducted for both UG and PG programs to test the below skills of an aspirant:
Design ability
Intuitive ability
Observation skills
Concept development skills
Creative use of color
Illustration skills
Situation Test:
After the Written Examination, the candidates who are shortlisted will undergo a situation test. This test is a ‘hands-on’ test or a practical to evaluate the candidate’s innovative abilities and skills of handling material in a given situation. Candidates are asked to create a model from given materials along with brief explanation of the concept. The model will be evaluated based on innovation, creativity, visualization, color scheme, and complete presentation skills.
Group Discussion and Personal Interviews:
Group Discussions and Personal Interviews are conducted for the Candidates who qualify the written examination. Candidates need to discuss 15 to 20 minutes about the case study assigned to them. They are evaluated on interpersonal skills, problem-solving skills, leadership qualities, communication skills, etc. The personal interview examines a candidate on general awareness, career orientation, aptitude, communication, etc.
NIFT Latest Syllabus:
Quantitative Ability: Addition, Division, Multiplication, Fractions, Rate of Interest, Percentage, Ratio and Proportion, Work and Task, and Distance.
Communication Ability and English Comprehension: Reading comprehension, one-word substitution, words with corresponding meanings, synonyms, antonyms, singular, plural, correct spellings, idioms and phrases.
Analytical Ability and Logical Ability: Concepts related to lateral thinking, reasoning questions, etc.
General Knowledge and Current Affairs: General Awareness, General Science, Current events happening across the country and the world.
Case Study: Situation-based questions related to the industry.
